One collaborative project to bring them all together.
You are probably wondering why we would choose this project to bring forward the United Nations Millenium Development Goals for 2015. The reason is simple. If we can empower our students to think beyond their immediate neighborhood, we can also get them to think about opportunities beyond their neighborhood. There are so many opportunities to make a difference and change lives for the better around the world, that it seems only fit to start in the classroom.
We teach children to read and write and to be productive, law abiding citizens within their community. So, why not teach them about students and other people in communities around the world. Providing our students with the opportunity to interact with and get to know people from around the world, gives them the scope and breadth of the true community we live in. We are a global society dealing with global issues that can be solved only when we learn to work together. Teaching kids how to collaborate and work with people from different cultures, races, denominations and countries is the smallest step in helping them rethink their world view.
The following are the U.N. Goals for 2015.. Maybe the leaders of tomorrow can thank the teachers of today for allowing them the opportunity to see the world as one global community that can only work if it works together.
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve Universal Primary Education
3. Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
4. Reduce Child Mortality
5. Improve Maternal Health
6. Combat HIV/ Aids Malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure Environmental Sustainability
8. Develop A Global Partnership for Development
